Microsemi’s™ PD69208M Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Power over HDBaseT (PoH) Manager chip integrates power, analog, and state of the art Logic into a single 56-pin, plastic QFN package. The device is used in Ethernet switches and Midspans to allow network devices to share power and data over the same cable.

PD69208M device is an 8 ports, mixed-signal, high voltage PoE/PoH PSE Manager. The PD69208M supports standard PD (Powered Device) detection, power-up, and protection according to IEEE802.3 and the HDBaseT standards as well as legacy/pre-standard PD detection. The PD69208M provides PD real time protection through the following mechanisms: overload, under-load, over-voltage, over temperature, and short-circuit and enables operation in a total standalone mode, with no need for interaction by the host processor. The PD69208 executes all real time functions as specified in IEEE802.3at High Power (“AT”) and PoH standards, including load detection, “AF”, “AT”, and PoH classification; using Multiple Classification Attempts (MCA). The PD69208M supports supply voltages between 32V and 57V with no need of additional power supply sources. A system that powers over 4 pairs (twin PSE) can be implemented, based on 2 ports of PD69208M – enabling an extra feature for simple and low cost high power PD device. PD69208M support up to Type-3 PSE (60W). An on-going monitoring of system parameters for the host software is available. Internal thermal protection is implemented in the chip. PD69208M is a low power device that uses internal MOSFETs and internal sense resistors.

PD69208M/PD69200 chip-set supports PoE Powered Device (PD) detection, power-up, and protectionaccording to IEEE standards, as well as legacy/pre-standard PD detection. It provides PD real-timeprotection through the following mechanisms: overload, under-load, over-voltage, over-temperature, andshort-circuit, and enables operation in a standalone mode. It also executes all real-time functions asspecified in IEEE802.3at and IEEE802.3bt Class 3.

PD69208M supports supply voltages between 32 V and 57 V without additional power supply sources. Asystem that powers over four pairs can be implemented by combining two ports of PD69208M, enablingan extra feature for a simple and low-cost, high-power PD device. An on-going monitoring of systemparameters for the host software is available via communication. Internal thermal protection isimplemented in the chip. PD69208M is a low-power dissipation device that uses internal MOSFETs andinternal 100 mohm sense resistors.

PD69200 features an ESPI bus for all PD69208M. It is developed based on NXP Kinetis_L family,MKL15Z128VFM4, that is embedded with the ARM Cortex™-M0+ core. It also uses I2C or UARTinterface to the host CPU, and is designed to support software field upgradable through thecommunication interface.

PD69208M is available in a 56 pin, 8 mm x 8 mm QFN package. PD69200 is available in 32 pin,5 mm x 5 mm QFN package.

八路两对端口评估板PD-IM-7608M

The PD-IM-7608M evaluation board is developed based on PD69208M and PD69200 chipsets. PD-IM-7608M demonstrates the operation of eight 2-pair ports systems; for 4-pair systems, refer to the PD-IM-7604+4MH or PD-IM-7604+4T4H evaluation boards.

The PD69200 features an ESPI bus for each PD69208M. It is based on Freescale’s Kinetis_L familyMKL15Z128VFM4 embedded with an ARM Cortex™-M0+ core. The PD69200 utilizes an I2C or UARTinterface to the host CPU. It is designed to support software field-upgradable through thecommunication interface.

The evaluation board, shown in the following illustration, enables PoE designers to evaluate Microsemi’sPoE solution with flexibility and easy configuration. The application circuit of PD69208M and PD69200chipset is compact in size (highlighted in the white box on board).
